ABOUT YBP The Austin Yellow Bike Project (YBP) is a community supported ALL-VOLUNTEER 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing human-powered transportation for the people of Austin, running a community bike shop, and educating kids and adults. People-power is a way to limit the traffic congestion of a rapidly growing city. It also provides an inexpensive, healthy, and sustainable alternative to the reliance on motor vehicles. Our project promotes cleaner air, land, and water, while encouraging people to meet their transportation needs through an active lifestyle and community participation.
Following the closing of the 51st Street main headquarters of YBP on July 1, 2008, there is temporarily only one Yellow Bike Community Bike Shop located at Treasure City Thrift (1720 E. 12th St.) The YBP community bike shop is a free educational facility open to anyone who wants to learn about fixing and riding bikes. At the Yellow Bike Shop, we don't fix your bike for you; instead, we show you how to fix it yourself. The Treasure City Satellite Shop has six work-stands and enough tools and parts to do most basic repairs, but it's not equipped to build a bike from the frame up. We hope to have our new headquarters (currently in site development/construction phase) up and running by Spring 2009. We have many active and past projects aimed at getting people on bikes. We target projects to help children and those without the means of purchasing bikes. View our Projects Page for more details. So take a look around the site and come visit our shop during open hours. We have been an all-volunteer organization since we started in 1997. We support our project through abundant volunteer time as well as donated bikes and money. For more information check out our Participate, Donate, and Q and A pages. Thanks for the interest, View The Words (By-Laws of the Yellow Bike Project)
