Newsletter - January 2009 Welcome to our first 2009 newsletter. Over the past couple months, we've spent much of our time working out kinks in our fund-raising efforts and at our Treasure City shop location. We're happy to report that both are once again moving forward at full speed. Read on for the details. - The Yellow Bike Project (YBP) NEW HEADQUARTERS UPDATE - This winter we mailed out our first (and hopefully last) fund raising appeal for our New Headquarters Fund. Despite some printer errors and minor typos, the response has been great. We've now raised over $162,000 toward our goal of $250,000. Big thanks to everyone who has contributed; it is through the collective contributions of all the friends of YBP that we will raise the money to build our new home.
Meanwhile, our site plan approval and lease negotiations with the City are moving forward and we anticipate breaking ground this spring. Also worth mentioning are several local creative types who have approached us with ideas for applying their artistic, musical and organizational talents towards raising money for our new facility. Plans for these endeavors are nearing completion and we should be ready to announce all the details by early February. Stay tuned. TREASURE CITY SHOP NEWS - Due to a code inspection issue, we have torn down the Treasure City Yellow Bike shop and relocated our operations to our shipping container on the east side of the thrift store (same address). Though we are operating out of less space than before we have expanded our schedule to five open shops a week. Stop by to work on your bike, peruse our selection of ready-to-ride bikes or volunteer and gain new skills while rehabbing donated bikes. We're still open late Friday nights along with Treasure City Thrift. For more info on Treasure City events, see http://www.treasurecitythrift.org/.
YELLOW BIKE AT THE DOWNTOWN FARMER'S MARKET - We've still got our booth at the Downtown Farmer's Market on Saturdays from 9am - 1pm. Stop by to wrench on your bike, buy a t-shirt or just visit Les.
YELLOW BIKE AT SCHOOLS - Volunteers from Yellow Bike will be teaching classes in bicycle mechanics and riding again this spring! Workshops in partnership with the Theater Action Project and Citizen Schools will be held for students of Bedichek and Kealing middle schools. If you'd like to donate a bike for a student to fix and ride, please let us know. SCHEDULE - Subject to change after the first Tuesday of the month - Check the website before coming by . . .
